Wedding Day Hair & Make-Up Checklist
It’s the combinations of both beautiful hair and make up that give the bride her “glowing” appearance and sequentially her confidence to handle the emotional day ahead. Great makeup with frizzy scruffy hair will fail to give confidence, the same as great romantic long lasting updo and a shiny, patchy face will make you look like a clown. It is important to have BOTH, hair and make up by a professional stylist. An important point to know is that there is an over abundance of hairdressers around BUT not many of them Specialize in weddings and formal occasions. Considering that as a bride’s head and faces are going to be in every photo, you really should trust your ‘Picture Perfect’ face to a professional, someone skilled who is practiced and proficient in bridal makeovers.
You can expect to pay a little extra for a wedding specialist, a bridal make over professional, but it will be well and truly worth it for you to feel like a million dollars, on your one and only special day. Depending of the date of your wedding, you may have to book your wedding hair and makeup up to 12 months ahead of time. Especially in the busy seasons which are generally September-October and March-April. Most bridal hair and makeup specialists can only do 2 or possibly 3 weddings on any one day, and as it is with life the first in best dressed (literally speaking when regarding your hair!!) When you do the math, most wedding stylist only have 50 Saturdays a year to work, with 2 wedding parties on one Saturday, that’s only 100 brides each years get the best bridal stylists. So this is something to remember and another great reason to book your wedding hair earlier rather than later.
6-12 months ahead of wedding date.
Book your hairdresser. Before booking your hairdresser you should consider the following points.
To make a short list of preferred wedding stylists, firstly ask your friends for their recommendations; also research the bridal books and magazines for hair and makeup specialists; visit bridal expos seeing both who is doing the hair/makeup and who is promoting their business. Kelly Weavers bridal hair has been the official hair stylist for the city hall bridal expo in 2004, 2005 and 2006, as well being featured in ‘Your Local Wedding Guide’.Once you have your short list, don’t just let the wedding stylist show you photos of other peoples work. Ask to see photos of styles that THEY (the hairdresser/make up artist) have personally done. Also see if there are any letters of recommendations and referrals from past brides. Be sure to see what past brides have to say about Kelly Weavers bridal hair. Once you have seen their work and spoken to the wedding stylist, this is when you normally have that “gut” feeling on whether there is a connection between the two of you, if there is, then you know that you have found your stylist!!! At the trial you’ll work out all the finer points to make you that “million dollar” looking bride.Grow your hair- Don’t forget that if you are wanting a ‘updo’ longer hair is needed, even with regular trims in 6 months most hair will grow at least 2-3 inches. But make sure you do keep up with the 8 weekly trims, there's nothing worse than long hair which is ratty and split. If you have shorter hair and are not particular wanting your hair long and up, then that’s great too! There are plenty of bridal hair styles for short to medium length hair.

3-6 months ahead of wedding date.
Book and have your trial. Some girls plan of having their trial the day of there hens party, so not to waist a great hair do and makeup, which is fine if you want. Just remember all your friends who will be at your hens party will see your “million dollar’ bridal makeover before your big day.
Personally I’d keep it a big surprise from all the girls, so they too will be blown away with your look on your wedding day. Think about having your trial on a different day other than your hens party!
Think of your trial as an investment rather than ‘another’ unnecessary expense. Trials are recommended so that you and your stylist can familiarize your selves with each other. Testing your ideas on what you think will suit and what actually does suit both your face shape, dress style and the image you are wanting to create.
After 20 years of wedding styling, Kelly Weaver just knows what will look great for your special look, this is a thing that only comes with years of experience. Together you and one of the Kelly Weaver Bridal Hair team can create your perfect look.
When you have your trial, have with you your headpiece and veil if you have chosen them, if not after having your hair trial, then going to a bridal boutique to choose them is a perfect time. At Kelly Weavers bridal hair we recommended' Anita’s Fashion' for tiaras and veils. Anita is always ever so helpful and always looks after Kelly Weavers Bridal Hair clients unsurpassed. At your trial the Kelly Weaver bridal hair team will take a photo or two (or seven) of your chosen style. The Kelly Weaver bridal hair team have found that this is the best way to help them in remembering your style.
On your wedding day its great for you too to look at, just in case you’ve forgotten and need a memory boost. It is also a great tool for the Kelly Weaver bridal hair team to use and show other brides, real face of real brides at real trials. With the make up trial, make sure you have either arranged to purchase a lip stick from our make up artist or that you have matched the colour and have your own for the big day. The makeup that the makeup artist Kelly Weaver bridal hair team use is long lasting professional makeup, but all lippy will wear off so they need to be touched up during the day. Even the “long lasting 12 hour lippy” wont last all day, you may need a touch up of a gloss to keep the shine.
The week before your wedding
Make sure you allow time to have your hair coloured, don’t decide on any major new hair colours because it normally takes a few week for you to get use to a major colour change – the week of the wedding is not the time to change.
Also allow time to have a facial and more importantly have your eye brows waxed! Your eye brows do frame your face; a good eye brow wax makes a major difference.
When we arrive
This will depend on where, what day and the time of your wedding and if we have another wedding booked in on that day. Our general rule is, whoever is getting married first gets there hair done first. This will all be discussed and planned at your trial.Your hair and makeup will be generally the first part of your big days preparation. The Kelly Weaver bridal hair team generally tries to get in and get out, so you can enjoy your day with your bridal party without us hovering around. We are professionals at wedding hair and makeup and do not have problems with hair/make up lasting all day!!! (however you will need a lippy touch up) Click here to read what one of our brides said about her experience with hair and makeup lasting all day. On the day of your wedding
Make sure everyone’s hair is washed the night before and totally dried before the Kelly Weaver bridal hair team arrive at the prearranged time. Washed and freshly cleaned on the day hair is too soft and fluffy to work with, and your hair will always hold better if it’s a day old dirty. With the exception to extremely oily hair that needs to be washed and dried early on the day. If this a concern for you than it can be discussed on the trial. The following may sound pretty basic but on your wedding day you might be a little excited so we’ll point out the obvious.
Please make sure your bridal party is on time and if sleeping over with you on the night before that they are showered (keeping hair dry) with teeth brushed at the prearranged time. If you have little time delay hiccups early in the day, it can lead to big time delay problems later on, and this leads to a stressed out bride.
As not to wreck your hair do and make up, make sure that all your bridal party have a buttoned up top on, if nothing else pyjama tops work well. Also make sure that all your bridal party have no make up on and yes we do turn up to wedding parties and find brides/maids with stay on lippy on. As to what we need, all we need is a work bench with a power point, and that’s as easy as a kitchen bench or dining room table. Having lots of natural light too is preferable for the make up application. The Kelly Weaver bridal hair team is a fully mobile service so we are use to traveling and using the facilities that are at hand.
If you're planning on having a bite to eat before the ceremony, make sure its not greasy and that its able to be eaten in small bite size bits!! Small bite size sandwiches make a great snack!!
